mystery boat . . .

A 41' Hunter named "Living Well" has washed up on St. George Island, which is a barrier island just south of Apalachicola, Florida. No sign of life, just a nice sailboat washed up on the beach. Anyone know anything about it? Louisiana registration.

Never mind. We know the story now. The new name of the boat is "Lady Catherine," and that was the name the Coast Guard was using when they rescued the occupants about 57 miles off Apalachicola on January 17th. But the name on the boat is still "Living Well." So it drifted up here and went ashore in shallow water at St. George Island. We couldn't connect it with the disabled vessel because of the name difference.

Here’s the boat story.

Just spoke on the phone with the owner. He says they were 4 days out of New Orleans and the 12 foot dingy broke loose from the rear of the boat and was dragging behind the boat which killed their rudder. They could not steer and the waves were breaking over the boat around 6 pm when they called the Coast Guard which sent out a C130 and H60 helo from Clearwater. The boat had position reporting, so they were easy to find. The helo took almost two hours to arrive. The seas were so ruff, the swimmer had to be put in four times and picked up and repositioned. He finally was able to hook onto the dragging upside down dingy. They jumped one at a time into the water and the swimmer put them into the metal litter which hoisted them up. The passenger went in over the stern and the owner was pushed in over the side of the boat, hitting his head so hard that he saw stars and has no idea if he went unconscious. They flew them to Clearwater.
The owner has turned everything over to the insurance company. They have told him the boat is a total loss and they will salvage it and pay the claim. The owner visited the boat on Sunday. Maybe he took the outboard… or a sand crab. Who knows.
