Conventional spelling, punctuation, capitalisation, and grammar all help in presenting information in a clear and understandable manner; whereas “unconventional” forms tend to obscure the author’s intended meaning.

Given the amount of reading I do, I’m not very tempted to spend much time translating “gibberish” into readily comprehensible English. If an author doesn’t care enough to present his/her information “correctly”, why should I care enough to read his/her offering?

Re: Moving over from Sailnet

Perhaps the high amount of activity at least partially relates to how the forum is managed?

The highest number of users ever online now stands at 1923.

We encourage members to write in a way that makes it easy for others to read their posts. But we do not discipline anyone for not doing so. Not having perfect grammar or English skills is perfectly fine. Just try your best.

From the forum rules....
Posts should be well formatted. Use paragraphs, punctuation, and capital letters appropriately. Excessive use of Netspeak/LOLspeak (internet slang) and texting shortcuts (b4, str8, etc) is not permitted. Posts with violations may be edited or deleted without notification.

The language of this forum is English. If you are not a native English speaker, do your best. We are glad to have you as a member and will be supportive and polite.

I think it's a great policy. I wish all fora did the same. Personally, when I see one of those enormous blocks of text with no punctuation I just move on. If you want me to read it, write it properly.

I think Gord meant the correct way.
