Morgan Out Island 28' rub rail and shroud chain plates leaking

Hi All,

My wife and I are completely new to sailing and recently purchased our first boat, a Morgan Out Island 28'. Boat was built in 73' and still has many if not all the original parts, so I know I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

One issue I'm having is leaking in the cabin, which I believe I've pin pointed to the shroud connection plates and possibly part of the rub rail. Previous owner tried sealing both from the outside, which of course I'll have to redo. Even though the rub rail has many cracks and even a large gash taken out, the only way to get to the shroud plates is by taking the rub rail completely off. (that is unless someone out there has a better solution).

My question is this, does anyone know where to find that particular rub rail or would a more modern replacement work the same?

Thank you for your time and input!
Kyle

Barbour Plastics manufactures rub rails and I believe I've seen that profile in their catalog.

I'm surprised that the rail has to be removed to get to the chainplate covers. Morgan usually engineered things better than that.
