Micro Budget Cruisers in Action
Hello, So I got the boat, found the crew, and Started sailing.
We started our journey on January 20th, 2012 in Naples, Florida, and we are headed towards the Caribbean. Right now we are in Key Largo, Fl. waiting for the right weather to make the crossing over to Bimini.
To say we are on a tight budget would be overstating things! For us its more like camping on the water. We have the Basics of everything, Coleman Camp stove, Enough water to last a bit in separate storage containers, And a solar shower for the deck when we start to stink. oh, But a new a new engine was a must... We will be doing mostly free things, Hiking, Camping, Fishing, Spearing, Snorkeling, Boat work, and the occasional bar hop! (So far its been easy to get free drinks when we start telling the locals our story)
We will be posting many videos and pictures of our journey along the way. So far it has been a blast!
Did I forget to mention we have a combined sailing experience of about a year?

Re: Micro Budget Cruisers in Action
Awesome, great see to someone doing it right
PS: When you "start" to stink, you still have a few days left Just Get some wipes for the important parts... Of course, you're not in winter weather, so solar showers on deck are pretty awesome even if ya don't stink yet
Good luck.

Re: Micro Budget Cruisers in Action
Have fun. Be safe. Did that back when I was your age. Talk about micro budget! And that was long before there was GPS, autopilots, Explorer charts, Internet, etc.
Looks like an old Columbia. We did our trip in a Columbia way back when. That thing leaked like a sieve, but the trip was one of the great adventures.
It's important to remind folks that this is a sport and an adventure that can be done on a shoestring, if you just have the determination to do it.
One bit of advice: keep that boat (and yourselves) shipshape and clean! Looks like you are already doing so. People will always welcome you along the way if you look like you care.

Not quite sure Indy would approve of your engine though.
Then again you need no ones approval but your own.

Sweet! I'll be following you guys for sure. Keep FB updated or maybe start a detailed blog for your adventures....more pictures too!
It's nice to see folks getting out and doing.....rather than sitting in a comfy chair telling other people why they can't do it.
