Getting stuck out on Lake Michigan’s Eastern shore in a blow can be a challenge. Coming into the entrance channels that are apx 100 feet wide with waves rolling through the entrance is even scarier. What is the best strategy. Go fast and try to get through the entrance as fast as possible or go slow and let the waves ride past while fighting the boat to keep it on a straight line?
Slow enough to maintain control, the faster you are going when the boat goes off course the faster it will go in whatever direction it turned. If the weather is terrible to begin with the channel should be pretty much empty or close to it. At those times I stick towards the center of the channel.
