Marina between Houston and New Orleans
I'm looking to purchase a 34' sailboat in the Los Angeles area and I want to transport it over to the Gulf side. I am looking for a marina that will allow me to store it on the hard for up to a year and allow me to do some work on it ie. change thru hulls and general clean up. I have called most of the marinas in the Houston area but none so far allow for storage on the hard. Not looking for something fancy but a marina on the Gulf or water access to the Gulf. Any recommendations appreciated Thanks

Try Pleasure Island Marina in Port Arthur, TX
Pleasure Island - Port Arthur, TX
There is a yard at the Marina that is very reasonable and should have no problem with your plan. I will have to get the number for the yard for you, I don't have it on my phone.

Re: Marina between Houston and New Orleans
Thanks for the information. They do not allow any work to be done on my boat by me or a contractor so that likely won't work.

Re: Marina between Houston and New Orleans
Did you talk to Karey or Rick? They are not associated with the Marina. My Dad recently had his boat on the hard there for almost a year and we did all of the work ourselves.
The Marina is just a place to keep it in the water.

Yes, I talked to Rick and he just got back to me with the storage fee of $240 per month but no work allowed. I really need to be able to do some work like changing out the thru hull and some bottom work.

Might be a new insurance thing???
Or they may charge more for putting it in an area where you can work on it. There are certainly a lot of boats there that are being worked on. It is a boat yard after all.
You could also try Ancelet's Marina, its been a few years but we also used to haul out there to do work.

Re: Marina between Houston and New Orleans
Try Hillman in League City. There is a bridge with 50 feet of clearance IIRC. Lots of people work on the boats there.

Re: Marina between Houston and New Orleans
About 150 miles south is Hooking Bull, it might be cheaper than those in the Houston area - Hooking Bull Boatyard - Services

Re: Marina between Houston and New Orleans
I know your asking for between Houston and New Orleans, but why not New Orleans itself? Seabrook Marina. Cheap and you can work on your own boat. Then when you get done come on over to South Shore Harbor marina 1 mile away and enjoy $484 a quarter for 40' slip fees. Just saying, plus ya get to enjoy New Orleans!

I will second Seabrook. Had a great experience there. They even allowed us to live on the boat while it was on the hard.
