Looking for Sale Prices of Vessels Sold

Is there a site that displays vessels average price sale price for like boats? Think blue book or Zillow for boats.

Now that it’s 2021, does this exist?

Re: Looking for Sale Prices of Vessels Sold

Boatpoker knows of one, but since he's a surveyor, maybe it's limited-access-only.

Why don't you send him a PM to find out the site (or go through all of his old posts until you find it...)

Fair winds,

I’m pretty sure there’s a soldboats.com or similar. Probably only US vessels and may be more limited than that.

Soldboats is operated by yachtworld and is limited to members only (brokers and surveyors) who pay a fee for data access. The info is fairly closely guarded for obvious reasons!

1. Boat brokers.
2. Might try this site: Free sold boat prices from SoldBoatPrice.com - actual prices, actually free | SoldBoatPrice.com
3. Might try this site to get an idea of what boats are selling for: https://www.boattrader.com/research/...price-checker/

Following. When buyers ( on these forums) talk about low-balling and/or offering no more than 50%-70% of the asking price, Plus a clean survey and sea trial, it would be good to know what sailboats actually sell for.

For the most part buying or selling boats is not the same as real estate the prices which are registered in the public domain for all to see. Usually these transactions are confidential.

Yep. I had my surveyor use her account to get me the info. Not particularly useful in the end though.

BUC was a good place for me to start. In the end my boat went for within a few percent of what BUC said, with adjustments for equipment and condition.

I think I paid around $30/mo for access for the 6 months I was looking.

Re: Looking for Sale Prices of Vessels Sold

Here's an idea. Perhaps we could leverage the experience of all the knowledgeable boat/yacht buyers on this forum to post the purchase prices and dates of the boats we buy and sell. Also could include those we reliably know of.

Sort of a "crowdsourcing" effort. I think it very likely that we'd accumulate a good bit of data over time.

Subject to honest reporting, of course, but the data on soldboat is probably no more reliable, and perhaps less so than a good effort by the CF community. Maybe the moderators would be able to create a thread to protect the identity of the posters, if that's an issue (it's not for me), but still make sure that only members in good standing can post.

Take matters into our own hands, so to say.

Re: Looking for Sale Prices of Vessels Sold

This is a good idea, but the main issue with crowd sourcing is validating the data.

Waze is a popular app for sharing the location of speed traps and for routing around bad traffic. A few local police departments have been known to list speed traps themselves just to slow drivers. Local residents on the path of rerouted traffic have been known to report accidents to have the traffic re-routed.

You can mitigate the input of invalid data by giving users reputations and perhaps their forum participation could help in that. However, most people don't buy and sell boats often so building a reputation system to help validate inputted data would be very fragile.

That would be very interesting.
I often wonder what the final price is vs the advertised price.

Often the price for a 3 or 4 year old (sometimes more!) yacht is close to a similar spec new yacht. Surely they cannot be getting those prices in the end? Having said that, demand is definitely high right now!

Re: Looking for Sale Prices of Vessels Sold

Zillow gets its sold data from county records which are used for tax assessments so the amounts are usually very accurate because falsifying sale amounts is a crime.

Sold boat data is broker reported so it is whatever they want to record. I would take it with a grain of salt.
