Re: Looking for Moorings on Chesapeake Bay

We don't do moorings so I can't comment on that except for Annapolis which has moorings, but here is a list of some of the most popular bay places that we have sailed (except Baltimore since we live near there, the list is in north to south order):

Baltimore Inner Horbor
Rock Hall - free shuttle around town
Annapolis - Naval Academy tour, lots of restaurants, historic town
Saint Michaels - great maritime museum, historic town, lots of small shops and restaurants
Oxford - very small and only a few restaurants, historic town
Solomons Island - also has a great maritime museum with fossils, lots of restaurants, a bit of a party town

Re: Looking for Moorings on Chesapeake Bay

Two to three months is a long time to spend in one place on the Chesapeake. A couple of years ago we were going to be in the bay about that long, and wanted a home base, but not to be tied to it, so made a deal with Hartge's in Galesville for a month on a mooring but the freedom to use that month as we wanted. Worked out great!

Looking for Moorings on Chesapeake Bay

Moorings may be cheaper but dockage is more plentiful. But if you don’t have AC you’ll want to be out in breeze.
But... I’d also say that holding is good in many places on chesapeake and I’ve also seen boats long term anchored in different places. Summer squalls and windshifts of course are the counterpoint

Beautiful boat!

Re: Looking for Moorings on Chesapeake Bay

Hartge's in Galesville thanks for the tip I will look into it.

I am out of Georgetown Maine only coming down for couple months to be closer to my daughter who lives in Maryland. Not to mention I live in Ohio and it is about a 6 hour drive compared to a 10 hour drive each way.

Slip might be considered if reasonable and can not find suitable mooring.

They're super nice people there. And if I wasn't clear, they allowed me to buy a month on the ball, but use it like I had 30 tickets. So I could travel around the bay all I wanted, but had a ball for 30 nights to use over the course of the summer. Perfect...

Check out this blog: Last Chance ... A Two Year Journey

He just sailed through there this past summer. Great info on moorings and marinas.
