Can anyone help me track down George on the
catamaran "Gracie"? I believe he is based in Stuart, FL.
I had
lost my
VHF whip
antenna somewhere between Palm Beach and Lucaya, resulting in
radio transmissions of only a mile or two. While in Great Harbour Cay in the Berries, I mentioned my problem to George, who went searching and found and gave me his old (spare) whip. Two other cruisers hoisted me up the
mast to replace the whip, and in the meantime George left GHC before I was able to tell him it had worked, and to thank him again.
This is part of what makes cruising such a great activity - the kindness and generosity of complete strangers! George's old whip allowed us to safely continue our planned
cruise through the Berries and back.
