Look out for this one floating around.

What a great headline about this "ghost ship"

Well, it's the Mirror, the British rag that makes the Daily Fail look erudite.

If anyone wants some more backstory, I wrote about this 11 months ago after the towline parted:

The world encompassed: Future hazards to navigation, present hazard to Ireland

Some nation's navy should use that hulk for target practice.

Re: Look out for this one floating around.

According to this story:
Russian ghost ship Lyubov Orlova infested with RATS could beach in Britain | Mail Online

"But when she came loose, the Canadian government decided to drag her far out to sea and leave her there."

That seems incredibly irresponsible if true.

In connection with abandoned vessels, I note the recent example of the catamaran Be Good Too which was abandoned at sea with the crew rescued by the Coast Guard. That vessel would seem to be a real danger.

Having crewed offshore and stood night watch alone it is not a comforting thought that something like that or its remnants are floating around. I'm surprised that the boat was not scuttled. It seems this asset was abandoned and left floating as a hazard to navigation on the off chance that it and the $$$ involved can be recovered later. Sort of Offshore, Free Storage. That seems very irresponsible at the least.

They aren't keen to set a precedent, according to this, and I don't like it, either:

Broken lines - Editorials - Cape Breton Post

But, considering the source is a British toe rag, there's some doubt that the Orlova is even afloat:

Rats! Cannibal ghost ship yarn scuppered by facts | Toronto Star

That said, "Canadian Cannibal Rats" is a hell of a good band name.

according to the "Mail online" linked above, the liner was being towed to the Dominican Republican. Those Republicans. Have they no shame?

Re: Look out for this one floating around.

Fascinating. I had no idea something intended to be blown up by gunfire would be designed and built by scratch, particularly as you could deck over any number of abandoned boat club tenders and get pretty much the same effect...not to mention durability.

I saw this Orlova when in St Johns, she was a nice boat at one time.

If it's like the towed targets I've shot at in Korea, your not supposed to hit the boat, it has a sign board like target that is above the boat that your supposed to shoot at

They don't have to be. In the last election, the Harper Regime received an absolute majority of the seats in the Parliament with only about 40% of the vote. Pretty good bang for the voting buck!
