Depends on the sail material. Most sails for larger craft, have the logo or number sewn on and can be removed. Smaller sails, made from a Nylon or synthetic type of material, usually have the logo or number stenciled on with a long lasting paint or ink, however most synthetic type materials dont retain the paint or dyes for very long, unless it has been put on with some form of heat process, and can be removed with patience and an assortment of solvents.. DONT !! apply heat or any caustic substance to any sail material, you will do more damage than good. H the boat.

they seem to remove well with weather. i believe mine are sewn to the sail. mine are north sails, so far. some are stamped onto the sail, as lee sails used to do . i dont know other ways to stamp a logo onto a sail.

Re: Logos on Sails??

Are you talking about the small patches with sailmaker's names, or the huge "billboards" that appear on big time race boats?

The former are mostly sewn on, and can be removed with careful application of a seam ripper. The larger ones that I have seen are computer cut in stickyback vinyl, and then stuck on the sail. Some may also have sewn reinforcement to the stickum. These would be a PITA to remove.

Can't help wondering why your interest!

Re: Logos on Sails??

I had this cross of St.George, the English Flag, on the new squaresail on my schooner. It is a special self adhesive material, but I had it also stitched along the sides for good measure. It rolls up into the yard and so far has not shown any sign of wear. It cost an extra $60.00 on the sail price, but then it's very straightforward.
