Local Knowlege in Key West

I will be passing through Key West at the end of April, and i am looking for a nice place for an overnight anchorage within a 3 hour sail of Key West. Ideally, there would be some decent snorkeling, but primarily something that is fairly well protected. Any ideas or favorite spots would be much appreciated. Thanks, "Enzo".

Give me a little more to work with... which way you going/coming? Draft? Speed?

Smile Re: Local Knowlege in Key West

We will actually be picking up friends from the Key West airport and heading out for a couple of days, so our starting point is the city of Key West at a local marina yet to be determined. We want to stay within a 3 hour sail because of the short duration of 2 days. We will return back to the city of Key West. We draw 9 ft. Let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks for your reply.

9' draft in the keys ? We had a saying when I lived there. " if you don't run aground at least twice a year, your not using your boat! " that was with a 5' draft. You're going to be very limited as to where you can go. Check your charts and tell the marina about your draft. Will make a difference where they dock you.

Re: Local Knowlege in Key West

If you can get into Bahia Honda State park with your draft, it's a really nice place with snorkeling, bicycles, canoes, kayaks, ets. But check the depth!!!!

Looe Key for snorkel and diving, but with that draft I don't think you could get into New Found Harbor if you needed to.
