Re: Lake Michigan, any place to anchor for a night?

Just to confirm, there are no places to anchor in front of Milwaukee even just for chilling in afternoon and maybe an evening? I had thought maybe behind a few of the break walls may be okay?

Re: Lake Michigan, any place to anchor for a night?

I have a friend who took me sailing two or three times on Lake Michigan. Other than that, all my sailing has been done on lakes in western MA, eastern PA, SF Bay and ocean and here in BC (sailed her up here in 2016).

That said, if I had a question about where and what a new cruising area had to offer, I would use the good ole internet webbie thingie and find

--- cruising guides to said area

--- books about said area

Not so hard...

Active Captain is (was) good, but better suited if you know what you're looking for, or if you're in a narrow channel like the ICW, where its attributes shone.

Behind the break walls on the north half is allowed, though the locals warn about possible wakes. The south half by the commercial docks should be avoided due to potential conflicts with large ships. There are also the State Park docks on the shore there.

Depending how far you want to go, Saugatuck is a nice spot to anchor for a few nights.
