Yesterday was a great day with lots of sun and a good building breeze. I took the
ferry over to port Townsend to help sail the Lady J home to
Seattle.
She now has her new Carol Hasse
sails and other finishing touches and was raring to go.
With ship dressed, we stood out at 11:30 AM to catch a favorable tide.
We hoisted white
sails for a while in 8-10 and made 5.2 to 6 knots at 150 AWA.
After a bit we hoisted the A-sail and begine makeing 7+ in 11 AWS at 150 AWA.
I wonder if Don's face hurts today from all of the smiling? Check out the video below...
Later, when it came up to 17-20 and we were still flying 900 sqft of sail, we saw 8.2 several times before we wiped out twice.
After dousing the chute we saw 7.5 at 32 AWA to windward in 20 knots on our only run to windward. I was amazed at the motion and speed of this
boat. At times early, we saw 5.2 in 6.2 AWS. Talk about efficiency. A truly great sail on a 53 year old gorgeous
boat.
