Kelt 850 / Kelt 29 / Feeling 29 lift keel

Hi,
I am considering a Kelt 850 DI ( the lifting keel version). They seem particularly suited to areas where shallow draft and the ability to use a drying mooring is a requirement. I have never sailed one but in looking at pictures of the lifting keel it seems small in area relative to similar sized boats. I know it does not need to be big from a weight point of view as there is a substantial cast iron bilge area through which its swings.
My question is, how well do they sail, particularly to windward?

Hello, did you ever get a response to this? or did you end up buying the Kelt? I'm looking at buying a Kelt 9M, which is apparently quite different to the 850 but similarly has a swing keel – looking for any insight on this type of boat, especially with regard to the swing keel.

I haven’t bought one yet as I have not found one that is in good condition at a reasonable price.


I think the 29 and the 8.50 are very similar. There are not many on the market in Europe at the moment (that I can find).
