Just Purchased new Ranger 22

Hey everyone!

This is my first post to the forum and I'm glad to be on board. Just purchased my first sail boat, a 1978 Ranger 22. It has a brand new mercury 2.5 HP four-stroke outboard, in good-great condition is the rest of the vessel including all rigging, sails, and the cockpit.

Any thoughts on my ranger as my first sailboat purchase to learn on, on lake Conroe down here in Texas?

Congratulations!
Good for you. I don't know Lake Conroe but keep an eye on the depth of the water in comparison to the length of your keel and you shouldn't run into too much trouble.
Have you had any sailing lessons? If not I'd recommend a basic sailing course just to get you off in the right direction.
Take a look at the book "Start Sailing Right!"
kind regards,

nice choice. my only experience with a ranger 22 is on the race course. they do well in phrf and have a good turn of speed for the design.

Thanks guys!!!! Really stoked to get her cleaned up/fixed up this weekend. I will be uploading picture updates. Funny story, I took the ranger out of the marina yesterday and ran out of fuel in the outboard, my ignorance yes I know, ha. And we were about a half mile from the marina when this happened. My fiancé started to freak out and asked what in the world we were gonna do without a motor, how would we get back? I simply replied...."babe, we just bought a SAILboat" ha! So I brought her all the way back into the dock with the mainsail. Awesome first experience.

Congratulations.

I think that's the same one I was looking at on Craigslist. If it is, you got it for a great price!

Awesome. I have a ranger 23. I sailed into Friday harbor in Washington and someone pulled in next to me at the temporary dock in a ranger 22. I took a look at it. Looks like a great boat.

Great size to learn the ropes for keelboating. I started out on a Santana 22, and there are many days when I miss the simplicity of such a boat for daysailing.

Re: Just Purchased new Ranger 22

I've owned 3 Ranger 22's. I absolutely LOVE them. I don' currently own one as I don't have an affordable slip near where I live. Let us know if you have any questions...I think I've fixed about everything possible on a Ranger 22...I have even scrapped one!

Re: Just Purchased new Ranger 22

Gary Mull did design a Ranger 23 as well. I took one out for a day. It was a bit wider and seemed more adapted as a pocket cruiser, but still handled well.
