Re: Jeanne Socrates Oldest Person solo RTW attempt

Not withstanding the current attempt, how many cruisers have had to pull into port for emergency repairs? How many cruisers have died at their first week at sea? How many cruisers in general have lost their lives on the open ocean?

I commend her for what she is doing. It is just that she is getting publicity that others haven't that opens her to ridicule. There are many out there doing similar things, maybe not non stop, but will face similar challenges while sailing solo and we do not chew them apart.

Sailing is an unpredictable sport, no matter your age. Just keep that in mind

Life, as well, is unpredictable. I wish her well.

In a prior post I failed (as in forgot) to wish her the best in accomplishing her goals. I do so now. I so not know her, but go girl!

Re: Jeanne Socrates Oldest Person solo RTW attempt

Here is the tracker.

Position Reports

I think she has taken off already.

For me the tracker is on and off but I think I can see her most recent updates somewhere in the NE area.

Maybe someone knows how to link the tracker in a more reliable way.

Cheers,
b.

Yeah. I think the red dot is the most recent one.

If someone wants to prove something to himself publicity and advertising is not searched neither the goal would be to be the oldest one to do it, but just do it.

I believe i have read that his boat has been quiet since his last circumnavigation and if so this is not about the love or sailing or the love of cruising but about to beat a record.

Nothing against records but geriatric ones or the ones regarding young boys and girls don't make much sense to me: The oldest man to climb the Everest? They youngest boy to climb the Everest? The fastest 100 years old man to race (or do) the marathon?

I wish her well and a save voyage.

Thing is, there is someone that cares. That is how Guinness Book of World Record Sells. Not my thing. Not unless you can get a record for most lazy Sunday afternoons?

It works for me. The red dot is the most recent position. The track north from Mexico was Jeanne's trip to Victoria this past summer.

You should know better than to call that the wrong way or the hard way. Apart from dipping around Cape Horn all those "Wrong way / Hard Way" pop up to low latitudes and sail the trades. Easier than downhill then "right way" in the forties and fifties.

Marketing hype at its best (worst)!

Yes, I got in once but it took quite a few tries. Mostly I get a white screen.

Yep broke her boom. Got a new one flown into Ush. I helped her get her radios up and running in Stanley. Botched custom install job in Sweden; as she didn't like the manufacturers standard fit. Nothing serious wrong; they just forget to solder the connectors onto the coaxes etc...!

She likes her radios does Jeanne; must tune into the nets to see where she is.

Re: Jeanne Socrates Oldest Person solo RTW attempt

Not a big fan of arm chair tactics...but right now i'm on one and she's out there.
I have done this trip many times and would not want to be in this position right now.
The item on its way toward her is no fun. On stbd to avoid will take you to the beach, port to the centre. Sounds like the plan was always to position yourself between that rock and hard place and sit. Running back for cover is not an option now. Not the first rodeo and sure she is prepared for it. Go Jeanne!
