Re: Is the ocean blue or green?

Is that at the mouth of a river? If not...holy cow, that is a awsome picture.

Re: Is the ocean blue or green?

Off the east coast of Australia it is usually green in close and out a bit blue. However, this can vary and sometimes it is blue to the beaches and other times green out 30 or more miles. All of this is dependent on the current. If we have current from the north, then generally blue. From the south, green. Can vary from day to day.

Re: Is the ocean blue or green?

Photo of Rio de la Plata as seen from the hill above Piriapolis. Milk chocolate suddenly turns to Ocean Blue well offshore.

Re: Is the ocean blue or green?

That is one muddy river dumping into the ocean. I agree, looks like chocolate milk.

Is the ocean blue or green?

May be the particular translation by Fitzgerald but I recall it as the "wine dark sea". Always wondered about that until I saw the darker than blue Eastern Med - dark blue-black colour which could look black claret colour I reckon. 👍🏼👌

Re: Is the ocean blue or green?

When scuba diving in caves in Mexico where the fresh water layer is about 40ft thick and salt water is below that, the fresh water tends to have a slight green tinge to it and the sea water below a slight blue tinge. I have observed this even a KM or more from the entrance where no outside light is affecting it and only our LED dive lights to break the dark.
