Is it a Boat or a Yacht?

We have Sail Boats, and Sailing Yachts. We have Motor Boats, and we have Motor Yachts.

How do YOU distinguish between a Yacht or a Boat?

Do you have a Yacht or a Boat?

re: Is it a Boat or a Yacht?

To me a boat is something that can be put on a ship. A yacht is a boat, or even a ship, that is used for pleasure and not for making money.

Depends on if we're drinking wine or beer that day.

A yacht has the comforts of home. A boat is a vessel that can carry a load over water.

A yacht is a kind of a boat. All yachts are boats, but not all boats are yachts.

I agree with David.
dictionary.com: yacht - a vessel used for private cruising, racing, or other noncommercial purposes.

It depends on who I am talking to. To impress her I will say "I own a yacht". If it is someone I do not care to know then it is a "small boat".

A yacht is a pleasure boat of any size owned by a rich person.
I'll never own a yacht

For me, the opposite. If I'm talking with someone who might get the impression that a "yacht" must be something grand, then I will definitely say "boat".

With other sailors, "yacht" or "boat" interchangeably.
