Thanks for the link to Edward William marine, Just sent off a Quote request,

New Wave Marine in Sydney is another one that I am awaiting a quote from,

Some new Govt regulation has stopped Trident Marine in Perth from ReInsuring my boat,

Quote from Topsail was $2800-00 Full Comp for $150,000-00 AUD,

hi

insurance isn't an option if one wants to head into France (LT visa) - (I read it somewhere on the entry conditions)

they have a 'must' word in there

also - I not only don't fancy the idea of having a total loss for some reason - but, imagine wacking a big scratch on someones 20 million dollar cruiser as one heads by Monaco or similar?????

no insurance is not a consideration
Yes, I understand you need for insurance and I agree. My comment emphasised above about insurance was in response to speculation by other posters about possible insurance requirements that might be stipulated (or not) in the Aussie Shipping Act.

I hope you find a suitable insurer.

Before you send any money to Edward Williams or Northern reef insurance, make sure you do a web search for the many tales of woe. At least one Queensland marina I know would not except EW insurance to enter their marina.

I did thanks, Bit iffy, Best avoided,

Good Reviews are only valid if you ever make a claim and by the claimant only,

Reading the fine print on these insurance PDF's, Its an eye opener,
Especially on what we dont cover,

Re: Insuring Aus registered boat

When we looked the problems were Australian registration - as soon as we said that, it would have been 5 or 6 insurers who said "sorry, we can't. We're not able (allowed?) to insure Australian vessels.

After that, finding insurers who *would* do Oz registered vessels, the issue then was offshore - the advertising ones in the mags and online were horrified that we may never dock to the promised land and stay in overseas climes. Most of that ilk said that they could insure a quick visit outside Australia, like to close enemies (whoops, friends) like NZ or Vanuatu, but that was it.

Then there was simply the "HOW old is it?! Umm no..." (she is only 1998 built).

So I have no idea what the rules on insuring Australian registered vessels are (it certainly won't be in the registration legislation, that would be too logical. Perhaps in the fine print of Murray-Darling basin lego!). But I know that the insurers believe there are particular rules!

Re: Insuring Aus registered boat

Hi all

Have gone with Topsail. — went as expected.

Good coverage for where I want. Price was competitive and demands what one thinks should be requested.

Will be starting Aus registration as soon as I have paperwork ready.

Thanks all

Re: Insuring Aus registered boat

I know have full comprehensive insurance with New Wave Insurance company in NSW,
$1600-00, for $150,000-00, 12 months, Wet Berth, $1000-00 Excess,
Maximum, 250 Miles off shore,

Incredibly with no survey required, All the others wanted an out of water Survey,

What I also find strange with Insurance companys
They wont insure you crossing safe oceans hundreds of miles from nowhere,

But will insure your boat close to shore where its the most dangerous for boats, and offshore to 250 Nmiles,

250 Nmiles offshore is water sailing">Blue Water Sailing, Hahahahaha

But I suppose 250 Nmiles offshore is getting close to the edge of the Earth and they dont want us falling off the edge of the Planet, Hahahahaha

UOTE=Pinto;2994206]Good morning all

Apologies if this has been done to death somewhere else - I have read some insurance threads, but, they haven't covered my situation.

I am going to register a boat which is in England as an Australian registered ship/boat. The owner (me) is Australian.

I am asking people if they know of any Australian companies who will insure an Australian registered boat -

my preferance is for an Australian company - but, not necessarily so - so, if you are insured with an overseas company for an Aussie boat - please let me know also.

doesn't really matter if they are Aussie or English or somewhere else

I have so far only one taker in Australia - Pantaenious - but, it's the highest quote I have got - unfortuately, the only quote I have got as an Aussie boat.

So - can anyone give some names of companies please - please forget suggestions if you don't know if they do or don't - like eg. Club Marine - because many of them just won't do it at all.

The boat has recent survey and the skipper has never had a claim in 45 years experience, non smoker, drinker no drugs.

the boat will be in UK waters, internal and coastal Europe

We are only talking about a small boat - 26 foot motorsailer, value 10,000 pounds -------- so far the quote is over $800 - which I thought was high.

thanks all

have a great day.

ps, if you are wondering why I don't keep it British - I will not comply to be on the SSR[/QUOTE]

Re: Insuring Aus registered boat

I have found Northern Reef to be pretty flexible and competitive. My boat is 60 years old, steel and I single hand, so most companies wouldn't touch me or are ridiculously expensive.

Before dealing with Northern Reef or Edward Williams insurance do a little google research. There are many instances of them refusing to pay. Some marinas will not except covetage by them.

Hmmm.. So, I wonder.. as a dual citizen (Aussie & UK) do I have a little more wiggle room than a plain Aussie citizen? Because frankly, if I can register my upcoming build outside of Australia, that would my preference.

No doubt true about Northern Reef. I certainly hope I never have to make a claim on them.
