Indo Pacific Tarpon

Hi everyone, ive been a silent member for quiet some time now. Im well on my way to making my sailing dreams a reality. I have received a lot of good information from this forum by searching. The one thing i cannot seem to find an answer to is not really related to sailing but i suspect people like yourselves who have been around the south pacific will have some good info for me. Im a fly fisherman and i want to catch indo pacific tarpon. There is a lot of info out there about juveniles that live in brackish waters or are even land locked in some unique situations. I'm interested in adults and i am curious about any adult sightings anyone has of this amazing game fish. I'm interested in how big and obviously where and when the sighting occurred. Its crazy the limited information available about this fish and what information is available is conflicting. i suspect i will have much to find out for myself. I am a catch and release fisherman so please don't be concerned about me killing one of these fish. thank you

Try searching on Oxeye Herring. That's what they are known as in this part of the world. You should get a lot of info on fishing for them.

They are quite common around Qld and NT in Aus and in PNG.

StuM is correct.

Megalops cyprinoides, Indo-Pacific tarpon : fisheries, aquaculture, gamefish

takes one to the same info as:
