ICW without holding tank?
My boat has a head but no holding tank and there is no space for one.
Can I still transit the ICW ?
I guess my outlet pipe will have to be sealed.

You could buy a porta potty:

You can still transit the ICW but you won't be able to poop.
Yes you must do something to prevent accidental overboard discharge.
Why not carry a porta pottie and empty it at marinas along the way?

Re: ICW without holding tank?
Miki, You may very well run into the Potty Police along the way and with no holding tank it's going to be tough to prove your not discharging overboard, which you can't do anywhere along the ICW. You could get a citation. The Porta-potty or a treatment system like the LectraSan that doesn't require a holding tank might be your choices. Chuck

Another consideration is a composting head. Chuck

I don't quite see how the ICW enters into it. You can't discharge untreated sewage from a head anywhere within the 3mi (usually) limit.

It's tough to be more than three mile off shore in the ICW?
I understand your point, just trying to make a funny

Re: ICW without holding tank?
Yep, get a porta potty and lock the old head seacock shut with tywraps etc.

You can wear a butt plug or some sort to show that you can't poop when that thing is up in your ass.
When the potty police come for inspection, I bet you will be famous. Just make sure you have your GoPro ready.

Re: ICW without holding tank?
Considering Porta pottys are only $63 thru Amazon... They are probably cheaper than butt plugs
Amazon.com: Camco 41541 Portable Toilet - 5.3 gallon: Automotive

Re: ICW without holding tank?
If you go with the porta potty, you may want to bring along several large Glad Trash Bags also.
After a couple decent craps, the aroma has a tendency to start escaping. It will also do that on a rough day when it gets "all shook up!" (even with the treatment product in the tank)
My head with Y valve (overboard thru hull is closed) is nothing more than a glorified porta potty with a 3 gallon holding tank that is mounted.
The trash bags are to cover it with. Keeps the smell in.

Re: ICW without holding tank?
Ok Guys
Thanks for the advice.
It's a porta potty for me I think.
Butt plugs are not sold in British Chandlers. . . .
Must be an American thing!
Cheers

If you search through amazon, I'm sure you'll find plenty of butt plugs cheaper than $63........................
The video of the encounter with the poop police would be priceless. Of course, they'd have to be convinced that the plug couldn't be removed. Does the collective wisdom of CF think that some 5200 would solve that problem?
