I got scammed out of $1462 for S&H of a boat I am selling!

I got conned. It was my action sending cash through MoneyGram. He claimed to be at sea and unable to pay for S&H. So he had an email sent to me claiming to be from PayPal, though it was bogus and he gave me extra above the sale price to pay for S&H. The PayPal email claimed there was a hold on the funds until I provided evidence that I had paid for S&H, using MoneyGram. I sent the MoneyGram receipt, which included the Reference Number. This receipt allowed him to get the cash and then the PayPal thread claimed an additional hold until I sent an additional $1250. I called PayPal and learned the pending transaction on hold was bogus. I’m out $1462!!! Crap!

The supposed buyer’s supposed name is Robert Podlewski.

The supposed shipper’s supposed name is Douglas Glancy of Everett, WA. I believe the shipper, who picked up the MoneyGram is required to show ID.

Thanks for the info. One question - what does S&H stand for?

I wondered that too, Probably shipping and handling, ie the extra payment covered the freight perhaps. Who knows.
OP I suspect that you're own lack of clarity in your writing style didn't help the situation.
And unless you're going to actually name the firm or person, and product/service involved as a warning to others, then the post just comes across as a confused rant. I'm sure thousands of people were ripped off yesterday, that's life sometimes.

Always interesting to see people come here to complain/warn after the fact but seldom come here to ask questions before they commit any $$ to strangers.

That's a pretty old scam actually. They always tell you they will do more and give you more, but you have to be the one to send the cash first.

The wording varies but that is the scam.

It always surprises me that the buyer will actually ask for cash from the seller. Sort of a tip off .......

Re: I got scammed out of $1462 for S&H of a boat I am selling!

Indeed, I let down all my defenses in the excitement of selling my boat at the Buy It Now price. Having never been scammed before I was not alerted.

BTW, here is the current auction for my boat: https://www.ebay.com/itm/154523093675
