*Hurricane Ian*

Hi all:

Please pray for Florida, hopefully this won’t be as bad as they’re currently predicting. I don’t know how to say this without it coming across as opportunistic, but I’m assuming that there’s going to be a number of storm damaged boats. Does anyone have insights on how that process plays out post storm? Is it best to contact salvage contractors? Any information you can share will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: *Hurricane Ian*

Every hurricane goes similar, it takes a couple of months before some of the totaled boats are sold into a company that will auction them

Yes, I’d like to find a project boat. The timing could work out well for me, do you have any ideas where I should be looking?

I find the best way to not sound opportunistic......is to not be opportunistic.......but perhaps thats just me.

Theres a great many project boats out there without having to sniff around after hurricanes.

For example there is a thread on this forum"latest deals under 30K" or somesuch...which would likely provide a vessel that would fit your needs.

But, please, continue to pray for us.

For the risk of being blacklisted, I know who’s going on the ignore list. Good god.

Also, courtesy Jedi, the storm winds are already backing off.

The winds can back off all they want, but there is still the rain and tide possibly with the back side of the storm bringing in more water

During Hurricane Ivan we got beatup for 10 hours....as an example

Just a little rant..

I realize Ian is Cat 4 and catastrophic, but where's the coverage of Puerto Rico's recovery status? PBS news hour is the only news source I've seen to bother to cover that today. Little news about Hattie or Cuba. And how is the after effects of the storm that hit Alaska last week? I don't see pictures of recovery help or deployment of help in any of those locations. And what of the after effects of Fiona in Canada? Where's the humanitarian outreach to any of these places?

There's some other locations the OP can jump on!

Ok I'm going to go and calm myself down now but I hope anyone in any of those locations return to safe and enjoyable living as soon as possible. As well as the people of Florida. I can't imagine what they're enduring right now.

The "Jones Act" is affecting the Puerto Rican recovery according to a Wall Street Journal article. It's behind a pay wall but the initial lead-in explains the issue.
Reuters has a few articles as does CNN.

Haiti was largely spared from major damage due to Fiona, however the country continues to suffer from internal strife and political turmoil. Maybe the Clinton Global Initiative can provide some assistance.

Thanks for asking. Highest winds from Fiona in eastern Canada were in the range of 140-160 kph. Divide by 2 for approx kts. ie:160 kph = appr 80kts.
However, colder water and colder air are heavier.

Storm surge up to 10ft. Only 2 dead.

Locally,we have a couple of 50-70 kt blows each winter, but without much storm surge-so little to no damage.
Most of Fiona's damage was due to surge. Don't underestimate surge.
Best Wishes to Fla.,etc. / Len

Disgusting. Nice try attempting to sugar coat a really ugly human trait. There are thousands of people tonight who have lost everything, and your instinct is to profit from their tragedy. If you're coming down, why not bring tools and help them instead of robbing what little is left?

Have you no shame? Buying a project boat cheap isn't enough?
