Hunter Cherubini 37???

Considering buying a Hunter Cherubini 37C to take offshore. Seattle to Sea of Cortez, possibly further thru the canal and up east coast. Mostly solo, but with one other at times…

IF I can find one that is structurally excellent to very good, and has a good motor, is it worth the effort to buy, quickly refit, add a windvane, and do the trip? Does anyone have any direct experience sailing on or owning one of these? Are they really “offshore coastal ready”?

Of course I looked at a lot of past threads, both here and on other sites. So no need to link me to those. Just looking for an updated (2024) opinion….especially if you have owned of sallied on one….

Matt took his Chernubia 36 as far as Mexico before Covid hit. His blog talks about the refit and the trip: https://www.saildivefish.ca/about-wind-chime/

As a former 37c owner I would suggest replacing the plastic portlight if not already done and reinforce the fwd bulkhead separating the cabin from the anchor locker.. two screws each side is not enough to deal with heavy sea's.
Took mine across from NC to the UK via the Azores and she survived 60+kts and big sea's laying ahull for 5 days W of the Azores.. she sailed like a witch and I loved her to bits.

That’s not the same boat. Has teak decks????

I know it says “Cherubini” on it but I am specifically asking about the 37’ cutter….not the 36’ sloop.

Mine leaving Oriental, NC, note the portlights.. I removed the originals and replaced with Lexan through bolted with a trim internally.
They didn't open anymore but I was headed for climes more moderate where a forehatch propped open was good enough.. and they didn't leak..
