Depends on your skill set, where you are and what you are willing to do.

Minimal skills in a foreign country without work visa and you want to make $40/hr....good luck but don't count on it.

Good skill set with a local work visa and connections...sure.

We do the same work we did before starting to travel, just do it remotely.

It all depends on your skill sets..
You could follow 'Loadsa Money's' advice and get a good investment portfolio.. if your in his bracket.
But if your like a lot of boat owners labour of some form is the only option.. can you sew, electrical skills, computer skills, mechanic's, other boat related jobs down to just cleaning and painting boats.. or start a Vlog of your voyages.
As with most things.. where there's a will, there's a way.
Just don't expect to get rich.. its even harder than on land.

People have been blogging and vlogging about their sailing adventures for quite some time. But no one has done so as financially successfully as Sailing La Vagabonde.

They recently upgraded their old Beneteau 50 for a brand new million dollar catamaran in a deal with the manufacturer, and financed the payments via Patreon income. So they are proof positive that it can be done in a big, big way.

And at risk of sounding politically incorrect in a world of equality and respect, it doesn't hurt if your girlfriend looks amazing in a bikini on those vlogs. I would have to defer to the ladies regarding the gentleman's attractiveness. What they are really selling though, is the vicarious dream, which is something I can absolutely relate too.

I have set up an ecommerce business that does a little but will continue to grow. I sell nautical t shirts , hats and rope hammocks. Everything is drop shipped and I just collect money. It takes a lot of SEO work to get in rankings and some advertising, but I have been selling the rope hammocks for over 10 years

I pay $5 month for server a month and run 4 web stores thruogh it using wordpress and woo commerce for free or you can go Shopify for $29 an month . They have all the fullfilment companies available

So regarding the vlogs: vagabond and Delos make far more money than all the others combined. Becoming as successful as Delos/vaga is like saying "I want to be a rockstar".

Nevertheless, there are quite a few that make far less but still enough to finance their sailing. If you're a likeable person, and have some ability to edit good videos (this can be learned) it doesn't seem too hard to make it into this group.

Hi Christina and welcome to the forum.

As you may now be guessing, you aren't the first to ask this question. Island Hopper posted a link to one of the several previous discussions on this subject. Basically it boils down to:

- There are no special, secret moneymaking schemes for cruisers.
- When passing through other countries anything you do to earn money locally may be taking income from the locals, require a work permit and if you can manage the above you'll probably be earning at third world pay scale.
- Anything needing internet access needs to be done in civilization because there is no cheap internet off shore.
- Earning money by doing work or providing services to other cruisers can be problematic as helping out fellow cruisers for free is a common thing in the community.

Basically if you have some skills or job that can be done at home then you can probably do it on a boat.
