Question How to fly my Spinnaker without a pole... or should I?

  1. I have a heavy displacement boat, i.e. Max hull speed.
  2. I have a beautiful symmetric kite, but no pole.
  3. I'm racing.

Using a device such as the ATN tacker or Parrel Beads, wouldn't I actually have far more VMG by running Wing on Wing with the symmetric kite since when racing the marks are usually DDW? Wouldn't this be faster than with an asym anyway since the symmetric is larger?

Going DDW is better when going hull speed anyway, because adding angles would not make me go any faster :/

Option B, move to the less competitive and less fun non-flying sails division
