How to Capture Animated Weather Forecasts

There are a number of websites, like Meteo Mari e Venti, previsioni mare e vento which give good local weather forecasts for a number of days ahead with 3 hour intervals.
These forecasts are probably not meant to be consulted off-line but it is possible to capture the individual 3 hour forecast as a png file (timeconsuming) or make a movie (avi file) of all forecasts using a screen recorder. The latter has the inconvenience that one has to run the whole “movie” to find the forecast for a specific time.
Is there a more elegant way to capture these forecasts for off-line use?

Re: How capture animated weather forecasts

It is certainly possible. If I were going to do it, I would use PHP and read the page and find the links to the images for each day and download the images. Then they can be made into an animated gif using ImageMagick.

Re: How to Capture Animated Weather Forecasts

Allen, thank you for the suggestion. I have to admit that until I read your post I had never heard of PHP. In a week time I will leave for an extended sailing trip, which doesn't give me time to study PHP before departure.

PassageWeather has an option of downloading the screen shots of their animated files. Great service.

Re: How to Capture Animated Weather Forecasts

Couldn't agree with you more, Hannah. Recommended the site to all my sailing buddies. Especially their low bandwidth download possibility is unique. However, a site like LaMMa gives more detailed local forecasts, e.g the sea state in the straights between Corsica and Sardinia (http://www.lamma.rete.toscana.it/mod...o/swh_N_40.png).
Good sailing, Klaas
