Our lovely old girl (Douglas 32) is née 1976 (Annapolis
boat show "boat of the year"! ) so that puts her firmly in the decade before I was born... But we just put an offer in on a 1999.
As for the " how well maintained is what matters". The two POs to me did not love her the way she deserved. Terrifying
electrical wiring. Sinful, crooked holes drilled in the glass and bulkheads in far too many spots. Some critical
maintenance neglected. 5 years on, and some large bills later, some of her is better than new (rig,
electrical, etc.) It helps that she was a strong solid base to build on, and few things on a boat are "permanent damage". Her
hull is pristine. The
engine will likely live many more (loud shaky) years.
The motorcycle is a 1972. The road bicycle a 1978 frame. The truck is a 2011. Got to keep the variety there.
