Re: How old is your boat?

My boat is a bit like a lot of patients who have had plastic surgery. Most of the yacht is 19 years old, but some parts are much younger. (For plastic surgery analogy, substitute your age)

40 year old Lafitte 44. I replace the standing and running rigging last year before sailing to the Caribbean. Cheap insurance. . Acquired her 3 years ago.

Re: How old is your boat?

1976 Westsail 32 (44 years) in well-maintained condition (for sale due to MY age).

Wish I still had my old 1964 Triumph PI sedan -- nicest car aesthetically and in responsiveness I ever drove. Sold her when we left Queensland.

Re: How old is your boat?

1976 Ted Brewer-designed Lazy Jack 32' schooner, vintage 1976, = 44 years old. The boat came new to me in the spring of 2019. I've lost contact with the previous owner, and now wish I'd asked him a few more questions about the boat's history. The 48 hp Yanmar diesel runs smoothly, and after learning to thread a sewing machine and making new cushions and sail covers all around, replacing all portlights, replumbing the water system, painting her top and bottom (thanks, by the way, to good folks on CF for advice on sanding bottom paint near the water with a Mirka random orbital sander hooked up to a cheap Ridgid shop vac and staying friendly to the environment), sanding and applying four coats of Cetol to the weathered teak, and bending on new tanbark sails from Hong Kong, I'm a whole lot poorer but still much in love with the boat. Big question now is the standing rigging. It looks OK to both me and to a sailmaker who happened by, but not knowing how long it has been there, I'm going to get a rigger to replace the whole loop from the bowsprit stay to the boomkin stay, and also the upper (spreader) shrouds. It's been a wonderful project for a 73 year old retiree, and a fine place to weather the quarantine up here in the Finger Lakes of New York.

Smile Re: How old is your boat?

I have had great enjoyment renovating my 46 year old Rival 34.While doing all the work myself with the exception of re-gelcoating the hull. I am 73 and it has taken years off me make me feel a lot younger than I am.Us oldies need something to keep us going and having a boat is about as good as it gets.
