How expensive is it to truck a boat?

Just how expensive is it to ship a boat by truck across country?

I know, it depends upon the boat and the distance.

But just as an example, if I were to buy a 36-38 foot monohull - perhaps a Catalina - on Lake Superior or Lake Michigan, and have it trucked to Lake Pepin, Minnesota, roughly how much would it cost?

I'm looking for a boat I could sail locally, for a few years, and I'm seeing more boats that interest me on the Great Lakes than in my neighborhood.

But would the cost of shipping move them it of my price range?

I've been researching the same thing. There are several companies that pop up if you search the term, but this one seems to have a lot of info:

Boat Hauling | Yacht Hauling |Boat Transport | Yacht Transport Company

Re: How expensive is it to truck a boat?

We trucked a 36 ft. ‘79 Islander Freeport from Marina Del Ray to Anacortes in 2012. The total cost was around $10K, with derigging and rerigging about half of that. However, the boat leaked like a sieve from the hull to deck joint following this. While the boat was new to us, the survey did not indicate any this as a problem. My thought on this is that the movement on the differently supported hull on the trailer bed disturbed the old caulking. The cost for raising the teak toe rail, replacing the caulking, and refitting the toe rail with refinishing was $15K.

Useful info. Thanks.

Ask some shippers. They'll give you quotes.

About a decade ago I got a few quotes to move my 37-footer (15 ton) from Lake Superior to the west coast. Came in around $12,000 to $15,000.

Have you talked to the people at Hoopers? They might have a Minnesota-based connection for you if going from Superior to Pepin.

10 years ago a 30 foot powerboat was about $12000 coast to coast without yard fees etc. Bigger boats are far more.

Re: How expensive is it to truck a boat?

In 2015 shipped Nicholson 35 from Bayboro NC to Mt Clemens Mi at a cost of $5200. I made the trip several times taking it on its bottom. Tie down straps from hull to truck were too tight and cracked teak cap rail on both port and starboard. Other than that, trip was fine.

2 years ago I had our 28’ Tartan trucked from Maryland to Florida, $3500. I got several quotes on Uship and found a guy who had a ton of reviews and specialized in hauling sailboats. Rigging and launching was about another $1500

Re: How expensive is it to truck a boat?

Haven't done much in the way of boats, but have moved other large items such as houses. Price depends very significantly depending upon beam -- there are certain with limits beyond which varying number of pilot vehicles are required and these get pretty expensive with all the drivers required (times shifts done plus expenses etc). The second thing is overall height -- again beyond a certain limit things get really really expensive. Find out these limiting factors before choosing a boat as if you're over-height you'll need to remove the keel, and if you're over-width you will simply have to suck up the significant extra cost.

A link would be appreciated. Choosing blind is stressful, one positive recommendation is better than none.
