I use Mclube 1 drop - Seems to do the job pretty well

Re: how do you oil your blocks

My turning blocks can be dismantled so they get Superlube Teflon grease, everything else gets a shot of McLube.

I notice that One Drop is what the rigging pros use so it lives in my tool box as well!

The key for most blocks is the ball bearings and the lube must not get gummy or attract dirt. Some are better than others for this an One Drop is amazing stuff.

Re: how do you oil your blocks

I don't think you should lube blocks that use sliding plastic bushings or non-metallic bearings common in most blocks. Just keep them clean with fresh water, light soap and rinse. That's what Harken used to say.. now they say mclube one-drop, but I think they have a business incentive to say that.

What I do know it that some oils will destroy certain plastics. So you run the risk of ruining expensive blocks using something like WD40.

I also favour McLube, except for the Schaeffer furler which is rinsed frequently with fresh water only.

Re: how do you oil your blocks

I called Schaefer about lube for my deck organizers, and they said McLube. So I did, seems to work well.

Re: how do you oil your blocks

honestly - occasional (once a month) rinse in warm lightly soapy water (dish soap) will keep the plastic bearing blocks running just perfectly fine.

I use soapy water. Nothing runs better for longer than just plain old clean bearings.

Re: how do you oil your blocks

We normally just clean and rinse, but for passage we rinse with fresh water and may use some regular shaving gel as it rinses out clean too.
