Hot water not working

Have a 2022 Jeanneau and just recently noticed that my hot water isn’t working in shore power or via the engine and worked perfectly before. What should I do to try to fix it? I’m guessing it’s some mineral buildup.

Re: Hot water not working

I never have read of a water heater "suddenly" not working via both electrical or engine heating. The chances of a 2 year old boat WH "suddenly" scaling up 2 different heating sources so badly that it doesn't work is VERY low odds

I would start by checking voltage at the HW and and seeing if it has power and getting hot.

How and for how long did you operate the engine to determine it wasn't heating the HW?

Hi,
What model?
Have you checked the fuses. Are the valves open on the water heater and is it full of water?

Is water coming out the hot faucet?
Coolent level OK? Are the coolent hoses to the water heater getting hot with the engine on?

Is it possible you have a tempering valve malfunction?

Re: Hot water not working

So a couple things to note.
- I believe early in the year that the water pressure from hot was down. Was having some other issues with the water pump filter that I fixed but I think the two issues were independent of each other.
- Yesterday when using the hot water, it would just trickle out and eventually stopped all together
- I went to the water heater (Quick Boiler B3 I believe) and didn’t see any leaks. I’m unsure about the heating element but when running the engine, I could feel the coolant hoses being hot along with the actual water heater being warm and the hoses between.
- I did recently notice that the coolant overflow was higher than normal a couple sails ago. It’s usually at the low end of the tank and it was in the middle when going from cold start.

If you don’t know where to start looking when no water comes out of the faucet then maybe just hire a plumber? I mean, this is so basic that we really don’t know what else to say?

Your question was interpreted like you have a problem with the waterheater not heating water, but niw it appears you open the faucet and no water comes out. Really?

Do you really think it’s called for to be this rude here? I’m not an expert which is why I’m here but this type of comment is just uncalled for and unhelpful.

Maybe here’s a better way to phrase the question that will not be acceptable to you: are there typically any components that need to be primed downstream of the water pump or other items to check that could cause no hot water flow before taking apart the whole system? Pressure relief valves, etc. The manual that I could find for it is utter crap, just like the windlass manual from this manufacturer, and is just about installation. It doesn’t have any operation, maintenance, or trouble shooting insight.

Re: Hot water not working

so is the problem the water isn't hot, or is the problem the hot water flow is low?

Re: Hot water not working

Hi,
Your ovners manual (9) chek this!

REV006AMAINTENANCEWARNING: Quick®with a double thermostat with manual reset thatshuts down power supply in case of an excessivewater temperature. If it happens, follow the instructions below:• shut down power supply.• Remove the protection cover (11) in order to reachthe thermostat (9).• Push the reset button on the double thermostat (fig. 4).• Replace on the protection cover (11).• Switch on power supply.WARNING: if the high temperature safety systemswitches on repeatedly, call QuickMAINTENANCEWe recommend checking the magnesium anode (A) every12 months.Replace the anode if its size has been reduced significantly. This simple and preventive maintenance will ensure a longlife of the equipment.During wintertime, when the water heater is notFin use it should be drained using the lever of thevalve (4). This is to avoid serious damage caused byfreezing. The overpressure release device must be activated regularlyto remove calcium deposits and to ensure that it is notblocked.Periodically check the joints of the water pipe installation;check the tightness of the securing screws and replacethem in case they are worn or corroded. Also periodically check the electrical system

Low flow: doesn’t look like I can edit the original post. Apologies for the ambiguity there, product of posting after midnight. Mostly was trying to see if there was a potential quicker fix for the admiral before I go back down later to tear things apart.

No worries, we pretty much all have done that.
We're here trying to get to the bottom of your problem, sometimes we can be blunt but we all learn things and yes, I'd like to know what the problem was in the end.

Re: Hot water not working

Looks like it is cooked. The manual didn’t mention an anode so looks like corrosion got to it and I’ll be replacing it. Attached screen shots of one manual that mentions it and one that doesn’t (which unfortunately was the version I had).

Re: Hot water not working

A dual heating water heater uses an electrical element when using AC voltage (shore power or generator) and uses engine antifreeze circulated when the engine is running. These are two completely isolated systems.

Either could fail, but it is highly unlikely that they are BOTH not working at the same time.

If the water heater failed to heat the water, then cold water would still flow through the water heater.

If this were a low flow issue, then I'd look at whether there is an issue with water flowing into the water heater, or water flowing out of the water heater.
