I believe you are wrong on that one. Things may be different where you live, but there are many harbors where the water is somewhat stagnant and just moves up and down with the tide. And of course, there are many places where there is no tide or very little tide.

It would seem pretty rude to dump your sewage overboard where your boat neighbor might be swimming or diving. And the same when passing by a swimming beach or a row of waterfront homes.

I'm not arguing that nature can't take care of human waste but the question is - How much? Back when the Indians were roaming the country and living in teepees, they would walk into the woods and do their business. Nature would take care of it. Now that we have millions of people living in close quarters, that's no longer practical. We have laws and there are reasons for those laws. People smarter than you or me have studied the subject.

I'm not likely to turn you in to the potty police but I hope you can use some common sense when deciding where and when to dump your sewage. The law is a good place to start.

Steve, I think we are talking about two completely different situations.

A First world marina with options for the boaters to use toilets and a community standard that condemns discharges in a Marina should be followed, which I do

Vs

A Third world tie up in a community of basic houses that discharges thru a hole in the floor directly into a river that flows thru the marina.

In the latter, the fecal count is already high, its disgusting and you are definitely limiting your time there.

In that scenario, I use the resources on board and leave asap

there is a reason why you don't walk on the beaches at night in india...and it is not because you might get mugged!
about 100 million people use it as a toilet!.... then in the morning after the tide has been in and out it is nice and clean for the tourists

That unfortunately is the reality Atoll and you either accept it or leave.

Taking on fuel at a tourist pier one day the tanker truck's hose connection was leaking badly and draining into Marina.

I put a clean 20 liter bucket underneath to catch the diesel.

When it was near full, the driver just carried it over to the edge and dumped it into the water!

Please use marina toilets if in the marina for longer than the holding tank can accommodate.

I'd have his "balls for bookends, and his guts for gaiters". We have NDZ here in the Straits, but also you can dump 3 miles off in most areas. Depends on the tidal action.

In addition to the prior answer, Ron, some installations allow the stuff to go overboard first OR to the holding tank, rather than going always thru the HT.
