Help! Need Info on Cost of Replacing Sails on Tayana 37.
I need to know what it costs to replace all sails on a Tayana 37 for long distance cruising. We have just sailed the boat, and had it in for a survey...yet to get the results. The surveyors noticed the condition of the sails, as did we. As we will be paying quite a lot for the boat, want to know what we are getting into as far as monies. This may well change our decision on buying.
Thanks!

Contact a couple of sailmakers in your area--they will have the specifications for a known boat like that and will be able to quickly give you accurate quotes.

Call the selected sailmaker and ask for a quote. Prices vary much between locations, sailmakers and your choices.

No way to get real specific here, depends on the sail choices and the sail maker. But it will be in the thousands, not the hundreds.

All good Ideas, but there are some out of the country sail makers who sometimes make pretty good cruise sails for a pretty fair price !! a google search might save a few bucks ! just saying from a low buck buyer !!

If you need a quick answer to negotiate with, just call a sailmaker tell him what you're doing and ask for round numbers for a Jib, Genoa and main. Blue water capable.

Re: HELP! NEED INFO ON COST OF REPLACING SAILS ON TAYANA 37.
Just replaced the working sails on my Cape Dory 31. It's inconceivable to me that a new main, staysail, and yankee of decent quality could cost less than ten grand. With sails the sky's the limit. Real quality costs.

I use the North Sails loft in NC for all of my sail orders, they are the best of all North lofts and they wont ripuoff.

I would expect somewhere between $5,000-$8,000 for a reasonably good set of sails.
