Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

https://tracker.borisherrmannracing.com/

Been watching them live since they left. She's like 15 and just crossed the Atlantic with them. Not sure she's even been on a boat. Quite a boat to start on! They were ripping along at 27 knots the other day. Monohulls can be fast.

Let's leave politics out of this thread and just enjoy the sailing aspect. It's one hell of a boat.

Yup. Glad they had a quick and uneventful trip. Looks like they’ve arrived:

Yeah it was cool to track them and watch as they altered course for the various weather systems

Not sure why this has even been in the news. A young girl on a fully crewed boat goes sailing. Don't cruisers with families have young children onboard most of the time and cross oceans.

EDIT: I know I shouldn't post if I don't have anything positive to say, but I really just don't get this one.

I was reading up on her, I didn't realize she's autistic.

but I bet even you will like her take on her detractors

"Essayist Steve Silberman, writing in Vox, points out that being on the autism spectrum enables Thunberg to be fearless in her rhetoric.[102] In an interview with Suyin Haynes in Time magazine, she addressed the criticism she has received online saying: "It's quite hilarious when the only thing people can do is mock you, or talk about your appearance or personality, as it means they have no argument or nothing else to say."[81]"

at least she has a valid point, positive message, and purpose, quite unlike the Kardashians

It’s only been a couple of years, and it seems I’ve already become a grumpy old boat owner.

This ones about climate change, NOT sailing.
Greta is heroic, and while supported by many, the message is clear.
We must work together to guard against the problems associated with our changing climate.
She chose to travel this way to avoid a large carbon footprint, the boat is solar powered as well.
Flying is the main way people when to travel, but huge amounts of fuel required.
Not getting what this is about is simply ignoring the reasons why this is in the news to begin with.
OUR POLAR CAPS ARE MELTING, SEA RISE IS ON THE MOVE.
it's up to people on the planet to do what the Leaders are FAILING TO DO ABOUT THIS.
We can do a lot.
If we don't try, we may all die.
Our president doesn't care about it he has shown this.
BUT... He's INSANE!
Let's not get caught in his web of a Hate and Deception.
Well, the MODS may not like this.
But this needs to be said.
Mariners should care.

But she has at least doubled, maybe quadrupled the carbon footprint of her trip.

Instead of one flight to get there, it has required two flights for relief crew to fly over to bring the boat back. And reportedly, the skipper and one other crew will probably be flying back to Europe as well.

Can you say "publcity stunt"? How about "virtue signalling"?
