Handsome Transom

My memory is playing up at the moment so I cant even remember what I was watching on TV at the weekend, but it included a few minutes of film with a Leaky Teaky center cockpit, probably a Formosa 51 with the aft cabin because it had the three transom ports and it reminded me how much I fancy them.

Ive been trying to define what exactly it is about the Formosa 51 that captures all my dreams and it cant be the rusty tanks and chain plates or the rotting decks, or the never ending wood care, so it must be the three transom ports and the aft cabin.

Just think of all the Galleons youve seen in films that have a large Captains cabin with the beamed ceilings and bay windows. What could be more romantic and exciting?

What boaty features float your boat?

Re: Handsom Transom

It's not 'boaty' at all but man I sure love the Salon of a Lagoon 410. The Windows are FUGLY but I've grown to love em.

I never realized it til I bought a boat with one, but I really dig a nice bowsprit.

Re: Handsome Transom

Clipper bow, wine glass shaped transom, dorade vents and butterfly hatches says "boat" to me. The Formosa 51 in particular is at the top of my list.

Re: Handsome Transom

It does bring to mind the captain's quarters. I love a good bowsprit and don't get me going on red sails in the sunset! Lug sails and rat lines and all that traditional gear is so romantic but what really floats my boat, so to speak, is the lines of a J-Class yacht: J Class Yachts : JK4 : Endeavour

I'm partial to a canoe stern myself. :-)

Re: Handsome Transom

I had to look that one up...what a great word.

cal·li·pyg·i·an (kl-pj-n) also cal·li·py·gous (-pgs)adj. Having beautifully proportioned buttocks.

[From Greek kallipugos : kalli-, beautiful (from kallos, beauty) + pug, buttocks.]

That would be a great name for a boat too.

Except in Greece where they'd be laughing their pugos off every time you got on the VHF.

Re: Handsome Transom

the heart shaped stern of the formosa makes her great in following seas, much like a canoe stern/double ender.
LOVE my heart shaped stern!!!!!!
my ideal boats for ultimate cruising ar evagabond 47 and formosa 51......both are my boat on steroids.......
