Hailing Port

What did you choose as your hailing port if you don’t live near the water? Especially if you plan on cruising and not keeping it in any port for a majority of the time? I don’t think it matters as long as the place qualifies, but still it is what everyone sees. (I am not asking about the regs, I know those)

Re: Hailing Port

Any place but a California city unless you like arguing with their tax collectors. It’s just a name. Steamboat Springs, Co. if you like.

There are many past threads on exactly this topic.

Re: Hailing Port

We used the last city we lived in before moving onto the boat... In our case, Florence, Italy. Only water near it is the muddy arno River, but its all good. Don't even have it painted on the transom...

Re: Hailing Port

I saw one boat with the hailing port of “Long Ago And Far Away”. I liked that.

Re: Hailing Port

Even though I live near the water I wanted to include Montara, CA. Look it up! I only had my boat nearby for 6 months, 6 years ago. It is an amazingly gorgeous section of the coast with a Coast Guard light station and Pillar Point Harbor around the corner just past the Mavericks surf break. Genuine and fun people who have become close friends. It's also the place where I found my better self.

Re: Hailing Port

Boat was originally delivered and berthed in San Francisco, so I left it as the hailing port.
