Gulf Stream Web Sites?

I'd like some recommendations for Gulf Stream related web sites. Thank you in advance for your input.

You are overthinking this!

Get LuckGrib and download a GS GRIB. This will tell you where it is.

With a Tartan, the boat is not an issue unless winds are out of the N over 20, or N at over 15 for a few days. Out of the north under 10 for less than 24-hours? MEH, will be bumpy but not bad.

I used to sail my T33 out of Hillsboro and have done many deliveries across , up and down the GS.

Thank you very much. I'll take a look at the site. I've made quite a few GS crossing, but I'm considering leaving Norfolk in late October/early November, heading down towards Hatteras and then crossing the GS, and once through it, sailing south to the Abacos. Hence I'll want a bit more info than when crossing from south Florida, when the decision of when to go is relatively easy or when racing to Bermuda from Newport when the decision of when to leave is decided a year in advance by others.

why?

just stick your head outside...

any north component to wind = you to be careful..

either wollow Roniszoro'd advice concerning windspeed/time...or just wait for there to no longer be a northern component to the wind

Windy is great. If you’re interested in historical conditions (wind, current, waves) try https://earth.nullschool.net. It has data back about 10 years.

If I was doing that run late Oct/Nov my concern would be cold fronts that can be hellacious.

Consider squeezing between the GS and Hatteras (not as scary as it sounds) and then south- running a course west of GS to about GA or even Cape Canaveral. Then lay for the Abacos. This gives you options if something nasty develops, versus being out there.

Alternative is to take a chance on the long term forecast and do your plan.

Either way, a weather router, or Predict Wind Pro (if you have Sat comms) would be a good investment.

Thank you for your thoughts/input. This will be my 5th trip South like this, outside & single-handing. As you indicate, in the past I have rounded Hatteras and stopped in Beauford, NC, Charlestown, Fernandina Beach, and then on to Miami, occasionally stopping at Lake Worth. What I don't like about that route is that sailing between the GS and the land puts me in a place with lots and lots of boat traffic e.g. fisherman in small boats. Hence by the time I get to Palm Beach, to be safe, I can only sleep for 15 minutes at a time. (On my trips north it is much easier as I get into the middle of the GS and only worry about large ships.) That is why I'm considering sailing East of the GS toward the Abacos, and once there sailing, West to Florida. It is my understanding that there is very little boat traffic East of the GS. It is also my understanding that this is the route taken by the Salty Dawg Rally to the Bahamas.
