The entire current year budget deficit was just a shade over $900 billion for all Federal spending. Where does the $16 trillion figure come from?

Links please.

I'm only the messenger and don't shoot the messenger.

$759 billion is the annual deficit for fiscal 2013 and that year is the one that just ended days ago. 16 trillion is the total debt.

What's this got to do with anything. The costs of setting up an exchange is peanuts compared to the costs of the actual medical coverage. The costs come down the road when the government has to start subsidizing the premiums.

Doodles I'm not arguing with you. I thought you asked about the ACA and its funding. This initial part is funded. Later on we will see what happens.

You got it, ACA has nothing to do with this budget bill, but a certain party is basically refusing to pass the budget bill without a resolution to defunding ACA (H.J.Res.59). ACA is already law(3years ago), signed by the president and upheld by the Supreme Court. People have already signed up for it. I think they have the votes in the houses to pass the straight budget, but the leader of the house won't bring it to a vote. The senate has already passed the straight budget, we are waiting on the house.

The folks that think we cannot afford ACA, please read what will happen to healthcare if we do nothing. I will be glad to site some links if you like. I'm not saying there won't be pain, but we were headed for a world of hurt, ACA IS in the right direction, though not perfect in any way.

We had a similar issue in Australia in 1975 infamously called the constitutional crisis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1975_Au...utional_crisis

Long story short, the Governor General, the Queen's representative and with similar powers to the US President, sacked the entire government. This nipped the problem in the bud quick smart.

We're currently in the US finalising our purchase of a yacht. We expected fun and games changing over to Australian registration. I guess we'll also get to experience some interesting hurdles from the US Government as well. We feel for those citizens and businesses that will suffer from this issue and never be compensated.

And who appoints and pays them:

FRB: Who are the members of the Federal Reserve Board, and how are they selected?

They are very much part of the Federal government.

If this goes another couple of weeks what will happen to the Columbus Day Reggatta here in South Florida with Biscayne National Park closed. They should rename it Occupy Our National Park this year!
