But then again, I am not a citizen of the USA, so it is none of my business! Although it is very funny...
That is funny, Dont forget that in the "election" (ehem) the coalition only allows electees who will provide a "mutual benefit" and anyone who tries to stop the coalition is shot as an insurgent. Too far? Gotta laugh though, as my own country is guilty of backing our US mates in every "freedom operation" since ww2. Hope they sort it out soon though.

The US governing structure is a "presidential democracy". Structure has little to do with what way it leans. I confess, when I look at the US, I don't see socialism as the dominant lean. Could just be me...

Serious question.
Are they [politicians] still being paid?

Oddly enough Yes. They made the laws that way.

Maybe we can get the Queen of England to abolish the republic. I'm pretty sure the signers of the Declaration of Independence had no idea that congress would be the laughing stock of the world. Gee I would be happy if Fance or even Greece invaded.

Re: Govt Shutdown Impact on Boaters

The worst part about it (well sort of) is that the people in the states don't truly care. We go to work and come home and handle our business.

I wonder if they realize how truly sad they look. It's kind of like I'm taking my toys and going home if I can't have it my way?

Well, ok. Go home stop drawing your pay check, and good luck getting another job.....that is not going to look so good on a resume.....
Reason for leaving your last job? I didn't like the rules

Re: Govt Shutdown Impact on Boaters

Congress has had a total of 15 bills passed this year. They include:
HR 258: Stolen Valor Act of 2013 (A new version of the law against claiming, falsely, to be a veteran. The last version was struck down by SCOTUS.)
HR 325: No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013 (The punt that delayed the debt limit.)
HR 475: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to include vaccines against seasonal influenza within the definition of taxable vaccines.
HR 1246: District of Columbia Chief Financial Officer Vacancy Act
This out of over 4000 bills refereed to committee this year. 15 Bill total for the year and nothing really important either. To put this in perspective, in 2005 on today's date, then president "W" signed into law 13 bills.

I call that totally ineffective government. If you had employees that ineffective you would fire them. Which I hope we all do next election. So yes when you compare the current congress to any other government in the world including France and even Greece, Ours is running strongly in last place.

Oh and to get this back to boating, congress also passed The Freedom to Fish Act, which opens boating access around dams in Kentucky. Now that's Impressive government...

That's my take on it too. It looks more about making a big publicity stunt than saving $$. After all people have been enjoying parks and seashores etc since before this country existed. Close the buildings and go home if you are not getting paid, but why prevent people from using what is rightfully theirs? Evidently there are many who think Americans cannot even enjoy a visit to a monument or a park without being supervised by federal government employees. That whole crew in Washington is making us look pretty foolish here, like others have said it is time for a whole new crew. I hope nobodies cruising plans get held up waiting for documents and passports delayed by this mess.

Well............. we (the rest of the world) are NOT going to invade and sort out your problems.

So you will have to ask your own military to step in and fire the ineffective ones.

The rest of the world does it quite often, you lot have done it before.

Get moving!!!

U.S.A. and California legislatures pass too many bills/laws. Generally, I feel safer when they aren't in session. I would welcome constitutional amendments requiring the termination of one law for each new one.

Thank you to those who read the title of the thread and commented on how this effects boaters. To those wishing to discuss politics and blame people, there are better places. IMHO of course

America was not shut down properly. Would you like to start America in safe mode, with free healthcare & without the guns? (Recommended)
