I watched last years ARC and the whole of the Volvo on Google - great to watch

I have a google file which displays wind over the Atlantic (send me an email address if you want it - its a KMZ file so not allowed on this forum).

Have you took a look on SkipperGuide.com? There, you can do similar things: Entering descriptions of anchorages or marinas with coordinates and viewing them in Google Earth (Click on "Browse with Google Earth" just below the world map).
The difference is, that it is based on a wiki and is editable for everyone. It's quite new, so at the moment you will find some placemarks in Greece, at the Canary Islands, and in Norway. The vision is to achieve a better coverage of interesting sailing areas and to make it usable for planning sailing trips.

This years ARC can be watched on Google earth by downloading the link from http://217.10.131.138/google/arc2006.aspx

There is also a link to a wind files covering most of the Atlantic. Good value.

Very nice! And additionally to the wind, you can add a cloud overlay, updated every 2 minutes:

Cool Tool

Frank

Google Earth is a brilliant tool for illustrating your travels and linking to blogs. Thanks for telling us about it. We are planning to cover some of your route ourselves next winter during our sailing sabbatical. Your blog will be an inspiration and a useful guide.
