Good book on weather forecasting?

Trying to find a good book or web site on weather forecasting. Need a clear explanation of how to use weather maps for weather forecast.

This is a personal favorite, not long out. Focuses on Europe but worth reading anywhere. The author is ex met office and a sailor.

Re: Good book on weather forecasting?

I think I am having a deja vu moment all over again here.....

Reading the Weather: Modern Techniques for Yachtsmen: Alan Watts: 9780396091943: Amazon.com: Books

Not so much about interpreting weather maps... more about looking at sky and figuring out what is going to happen 'sans carta'.

Written by a prof Met man with a practical touch.... unlike many books which are just rehashed stuff written by yachting 'gurus'....

more of his work here... Amazon.com: Alan Watts: Books, Biography, Blog, Audiobooks, Kindle

Re: Good book on weather forecasting?

Excellent, and very in depth, on line class by Starpath.

http://www.starpath.com/marweather/marweather_title.htm

You can just buy the book, but its not nearly as good by itself. Way better to sign up for the class. Big comitment of time, but well worth it.

If you just want to learn to read a weather fax then all the symbology can be found here:

http://www.opc.ncep.noaa.gov/UGbegin.shtml

Good explanation of all NOAA/OPC weather fax products and explanation of abbreviations and symbology.
