Give the Pardey's a metal for sailing the Med!!

This is our second and last season in the Med. We left Turkey early this spring and are making our way west with a plan to arrive in Gibraltar around the 2nd or 3rd week in September. Sitting here in Valencia, Spain reminiscing about our travels with a few hundred miles left before we depart; our minds are on places we have been and a few not yet visited but now and then we are thinking about new horizons on the other side of the Atlantic as well. We have had the time of our lives here in the Med and couldn’t say enough good things about the places we have visited, the people we have met as well as the food we have enjoyed. It’s just been a wonderful experience.

Now to my point; is there anyone currently on CF that has "actually sailed" from east to west in the Med???

We are devout sailors and sail whenever we can but have motored often because the winds are just so crappy here. We compared notes with a friend of ours in a Cat that also left Turkey and they have used more diesel in 2 months than we did in the last 2 years so we do sail. Yes we have had some nice sails here but they have not been very common. If you hang out in one place like the Cyclades then yes you have winds but I’m talking about going somewhere.

I think they should give Lin and Larry Pardey a bloody metal, we know they sailed it because they didn’t have an engine. They also didn’t have a laptop with 3 different weather reports daily, GPS mapping systems plus all the additional info that is available today that wasn’t years ago. No autopilot either. And we think we are sailors,.... as my Grand Son would say..Meh!

It's not too late ! Their boat is still for sale AND you get the benefit of a massive $50,000 price reduction. Think of the diesel you will save and the good you will do for the environment.

Al Gore and a cuppla polar bears will thank you.

Yes, I raced from Israel to Canaries about 15 years ago.

Ahhh yes, the Motorterranean.

The Pardys probably just hauled the hook when the wind hit their cheeks and made the best of it.

Motorterranian..too funny. I remember when Dave (GoBoatingNow) said he thought sailing from the east to west in the Med was more work than crossing the ocean..I sort of get his mindset now.
Hey MarkJ good on you for sailing this place, one of the very few I'll bet but racing is sort of cheating isn't it??

absolutely, give me the atlantic, the North sea, the Irish Sea, etc any time. The Med , its either blowing a gale that chops the boat in two, has no wind or just plain contrary.

What the Med needs is time, thats the key.

I'm thinking this race was not in July or August. A race in October would make sense . . . . join the ARC etc.

Oh, yeah, of course

I also sailed it in 2010, but not a direct trip... over 6 months.

I can even PROVE I didn't motor!

This one is in the Med, but have a look at the wind speed... would you have motored??

Odysseus did.

Then countless others did too.

You motored because you have a motor.

Sorry, no medals.
