Fort Lauderdale contacts
Hello, I'll be visiting my parents in Ft Lauderdale in early Feb, and wanted to check out marinas that are sailboat-friendly.
I presently own a 36' Sweden Yachts sloop in the San Juan Islands of WA and am considering a move to FL.
Any recommendations or contacts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Bahia Mar Bahia Mar Yachting Center – In the Heart of Fort Lauderdale is sailboat friendly, but expensive.
Check for marinas on the Dania Cut Off Canal. They keep changing names, not sure what they are called anymore, but easy to get there, no brisdges.
Anchor a few days for free in Lake Sylvia, but Keep a low profile, the water cops will chase you away, it was 48 hrs max before, not sure what it is now.
No loud music, no dancing naked on deck, no laundry on the lifelines and rigging and you may stay for a few more days, low profile, quiet and polite does it.

Re: Fort Lauderdale contacts
Hideously expensive! Am bringing my boat down the river to a marina for one night before leaving and it's $175 for the night....
Get out of there as fast as you can.

Hi Greg,
Marinas in the Fort Lauderdale area can be quite pricey, but there are other options to consider. There are miles of rivers and canals, and plenty of people with homes on these waterways that will rent out their unused dock at much more reasonable rates. I keep my Morgan 462 way up the New River in Fort Lauderdale, and have a great dock with amazing "landlords". Especially with a 36' boat, you should have lots of options. Take a look at Dock Search.com - Boat docks, slip, dockage for rent classifieds. to get an idea of what's available. Some of the prices are going to be ridiculous, but look carefully and you can find good deals behind private homes.
Regards,
David.

Re: Fort Lauderdale contacts
Try the two municipal marinas, much better price. Also Hollywood Municipal is fairly priced and not to far away. My mom also lives in Ft Lauderdale and we spend a month there each year. If you aren't staying on the boat you have a ton of options in the canals behind people houses. Don't go in the big marinas, you'll be broke in a week. Lake Sylvie is good for a few nights and dingy to the Oyster Bar for $10 and free if you eat. They're also mooring balls by Las Olas Blvd, nice location, a little rolly in the day.

Re: Fort Lauderdale contacts
Try Las Olas Marina, easy in and out, just north of the bridge and convenient to everything.
