Re: Female Heroes of the Sea and Sailors
This is my first post on the CF -- breaking my lurker status to add Liz Clark to the list of Female Sailors.
I've been reading about Liz for the last 10 years or so. She's not a racer, but instead a surfer, sailor, and environmentalist who is taking her sweet time to go 'round. On her blog she writes, "I travel at a pace not much faster than you can run. Weather, swell, and tides dictate my days." I think she's 11 or 12 years into her voyage.
Inspiring story about a woman pursuing a dream and something she believes in!

Re: Female Heroes of the Sea and Sailors
Let us not forget Linda Dashew, the wife of designer Steve Dashew. Linda raced with Steve on their D-Class Beowulf catamarans with Steve at the helm and Linda on the wire.
Linda co-authored the Dashews wonderful books which the Dashew's made available as free downloads from their website.
Linda now has gone more than 250,000 miles in sail and power boats, moving from multihulls to monohulls, to their latest boat, their FPB 78.

Thank you for adding Linda Dashew.
Back in the 1980s, I read all the books (before the internet was popular) I could about long distance voyaging. The Dashew's were among my favorites to read, and I remember thinking at the time "I wish I had a woman/wife/partner/spouse like Linda with whom to travel the world in a sailboat. I admired (and still do) what the Dashew's accomplished. Steve Dashew was a lucky man in many respects.
Bravo Linda!

Re: Female Heroes of the Sea and Sailors
What little I've seen of this year's Golden Globe Race, it seems absolutely terrifying, so I'm nominating:
Susie Goodall
Quote:
Susie Goodall is an offshore and ocean sailing instructor who was introduced to the sport at the age of 3 and raced Laser dinghies before moving into teaching. In recent times, she has been skippering a 60ft sail training/expedition yacht in Scandinavia. She says: “When I was young, all holidays were spent sailing and my weekends were taken up racing Lasers, before I started teaching sailing on the Isle of Wight. I’ve spent a few years working in the superyacht industry before taking up sail training.”

Re: Female Heroes of the Sea and Sailors
Here is another female sailor that deserves recognition.
Anne Caseneuve died of cancer on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the age of 51 years.
This was one year to the day after she sailed her Trimaran ANEO to victory in the Rhum category in the 2014 Route du Rhum. Anne Caseneuve sailed the race knowing she was sick.

Re: Female Heroes of the Sea and Sailors
Thank you to all for these posts. For me it is a treasure trove of information as I have been looking for books and information for my 10 year old granddaughter to help make her aware of the many possibilities she has for her future; not just related to sailing but to any field of endeavor she may chose. I especially appreciate that the posts have not been limited just to life savers but has also included many women who have successfully chosen a path less traveled.
