EU export tax And stuck in EU

Purchased a new cat for EU export. The EU allows 60 days to depart the Schengen area to avoid VAT tax/sales tax, but we’re stuck in France. The marina is closed so we cannot leave and all other ports are closed to arrivals.

Is anyone else in the same situation? If so, how are you dealing with not being subject to the tax if you cannot leave the Schengen area within the 60 requirement?

Re: EU export tax And stuck in EU

If you are not an EU resident, you should be able to 'temporarily import' the yacht for 18 months without paying VAT. I do not know the exact process but I'm sure your cat builder will be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: EU export tax And stuck in EU

My bet is that the government is NOT going to invoice you (or the dealer/manufacturer) for a tax that they themselves prevented you from avoiding in a 'force majeure' situation.

It may, however, be a good idea to contact the relevant tax authority (yourself or through the dealer/manufacturer) to let them know about your situation and get information about how to proceed.

I'd guess they have bigger worries than you right now.
