Erie Canal Chart help

So I'm starting to plan our trip through the canal system for next summer and am having a bit of trouble understanding the depth charts that the state of NY puts out.

When you look at mile marker 74.63 and it marks the confluence of the Nowadaga Creek on the south shore and notes the depths as 4, 6, and 5 for the south, middle, and north parts of the canal. Is this talking about the creek or is it actually saying that the canal drops down to 6' in the middle at that point? If so what does someone who has more than a 6' draft do? There are only a couple of spots like this on the entire canal, does that mean that with a draft of 6'4" I just can't use the canal system?

If in doubt about any areas like that where they show low depth due to shoaling, check with the canal corp. They'll dredge it at some point, so they should have the latest info on depths, any extra buoys placed to mark the best water, and when it may be dredged.

Ahh I see the information on their site is almost a year old.
