Re: entrance advice marina del rey

You go in the SOUTH entrance. You go out the NORTH entrance. You can sail in the channel but you are not supposed to use your spiniker in the channel. If you are going down wind go wing on wing. Be aware that when you sail in the channel and cross one of the four intersections you will most often get a gust of wind. The fuel dock will be on your port side just before the first intersection. There is guest boat docks and a pumpout station at Burton Chase Park which will be on your starboard side just after the first fourway intersection. Pumpout is free. The cost to tie up over night is $1.15 per foot which includes 110 volt hookup and free WiFi. If you are just there for a few hours, four hours are free. They don’t take reservations it’s first come first served, and you are only allowed to stay seven days in any 30 day period. If you are over 50ft you have to call the park first. The number is (424) 526-7910. There is a Ralph’s grocery store within walking distance about a third of a mile away. A West Marine store and other shops and a few restaurants are in the strip mall that Ralph’s is in. If you are looking for a place to anchor the free anchorage is just south of the south entrance you will most likely see a couple of boats anchored there when you come in. It gets a little rough at the anchorage.

My understanding is that the rules apply to both entrances. There is no code stating which to use. I read in a guide book that northbound boats go out the north and visa versa and the same coming back. If your coming back from the north there is no need to go all the way around the the south entrance

Yes that is true and I should have stated that. But if you enter on the south and exit on the north you do not have to cross traffic when you turn.

Re: entrance advice marina del rey

you've gotten lots of advice...sailing in and out of MDR is no problem...lots of room, you can sail in or out of either entrance. Would say with prevailing WNW winds sailing in the north entrance is easier, but as others have stated, if sailing in the south just hug the seawall until you can enter the main channel.
