Emergency Tiller

Good afternoon.

Doing the inventory, i realized i was missing my emergency tiller from my Tartan 33. I am pretty sure I had one when we did the survey back in November but...no way to find it.

I suppose these tillers are not all compatible between boats. Any advice on the best way to replace the tiller? My tartan is from 1981....

First— BRILLIANT choice of boat.

Second join the Tartan Sailing Group on Yahoo. There are several T-33 Owner’s there.

Third look in the Laz. It is a piece of pipe (2”?) probably painted the same gray as the inside of the hull back there. Mine keeps hiding under the fenders.

Re: Emergency Tiller

I have just sold our spare tiller which no longer fits because we fitted wheel, we have a shortened tiller just in case. At £100 the buyer almost snatched my arm off. They seem to be advertised at over £200 this side of the pond.

Its the metal block that attaches to the top of the rudder stock that is the tricky bit. If you can find one of these or have someone knock one up then the actual tiller can be something simple like a new ax handle.

Thank you Snore. Happy to meet an other Tartan 33 owner. We have Wind Maiden since November and we are very happy with her. Great sailing so far and no problem at all.

I will keep looking. I am sure the expert tested it during the survey. Since we are leaving for a week trip end of the month, I was reviewing all my security items and realized I couldn't find it. Will take everything off again and make a new search

Will try to contact people in this group as a second option just in case...
